Oklahoma City Car Accident Attorney Dan Davis Discusses the Long-Term Impact of Hit-And-Run Accidents
Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- Oklahoma City pedestrian accident lawyer Dan Davis of The Dan Davis Law Firm said a recent news story documenting the aftermath of an accident in which two pedestrians were struck by a car illustrates the serious long-term physical and financial impact of such accidents.
According to News 9 (“Fund Set Up To Help OKC Couple After Hit-And-Run Accident,” October 31) a pair of pedestrians were hit while walking on South Santa Fe near 51st St. A driver struck them and fled the scene of the accident, leaving the accident victims with serious injuries, according to the story.
“All too often, the very human cost of car accidents is overlooked,” said Davis, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “An accident involving a moving vehicle that hits a pedestrian can cause serious injuries that might take months or even years to recover from physically. The cost of treatment can be astronomical, especially for someone who might be too injured to go to work and collect a paycheck.”
News 9 said that the pedestrians were walking back from the store when they were struck from behind by a 17-year-old driver who fled the scene of the accident. The driver later returned to the scene of the accident where he was arrested, News 9 reports.
As a result of the accident, the News 9 reported that the victims sustained a number of broken bones in the accident. The male, Wally Moreno, suffered two broken legs, a shattered ankle and lacerations to the forehead while the female victim, Jackie Vincent, suffered a broken arm that required the surgical implantation of a steel rod to hold her elbow together, according to the article.
“It’s important for all drivers to remember that it only takes a split second of inattention to cause a serious accident,” Davis said. “We urge drivers to stay focused, avoid distractions and never drive after having too much to drink. If you are in an accident, the law requires you to stop and help anyone who might be hurt. You also need to exchange information with the other driver.”
Davis said attorneys can help victims of car accidents pursue compensation for their losses. A lawyer can protect the victims’ rights and hold the negligent individual or company accountable, he said.
