Philadelphia Car Accident Lawyer Randall Flager Comments on Report about Dangerous Intersection and Risk to Pedestrians
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 08, 2014 -- Commenting on a recent new article published by the Morning Call about Bethlehem Township’s decision to add a stop sign to a dangerous intersection where a pedestrian accident injured two teenagers in September, attorney Randall Flager today stressed the importance of evaluating the state’s most dangerous intersections for safety improvements and reminding drivers of safe driving habits when approaching three- and four-way intersections.
Flager, the founding attorney at Flager & Associates, based his comments on a December 2 article, “Dangerous intersection at Freedom High to become a four-way stop.” According to the article, Bethlehem Township officials recently voted to install a fourth stop sign at the intersection of Santee and Chester roads in Bethlehem Township in the wake of a September accident which injured two 13-year-old pedestrians crossing the intersection.
The Morning Call reported that one teen was thrown more than 6 feet after being hit. He broke his arm and suffered bruising. The other teen received hip injury and bruising, the article states.
“Countless intersections in Pennsylvania pose a serious risk to pedestrians who simply want to cross the road,” Flager said. “At Flager & Associates, we support efforts by state and local officials to install stop signs, warning signals and other critical safety measures designed to protect pedestrians and cyclists at the state’s most dangerous intersections.”
According to the Morning Call, local officials authorized a traffic study in October after the two students were hit by a car at the intersection in September. At the time of the accident, the Morning Call stated that the intersection had three stop signs installed, but lacked a stop sign at Santee Road where it meets the driveway to Freedom High School.
In addition to the installation of the stop sign, the Morning Call article stated that town officials voted to paint the intersection’s road surface to identify it as a pedestrian walkway and install signs notifying drivers that they are approaching a marked pedestrian walkway.
Flager said drivers should use extra caution when approaching any intersection, which are often the location of serious accidents. He added that drivers should keep an eye out for pedestrians and also be prepared to stop if another driver is not paying attention.
“While these safety measures represent a positive step in the right direction for drivers and pedestrians alike, it’s critical for drivers to understand their responsibility when approaching an intersection,” Flager said. “An accident can happen in a matter of seconds if a driver is texting or paying attention to their cell phone, driving while impaired by alcohol or ignoring speed limits and traffic signals. When this is the case, these negligent drivers need to be held accountable for their reckless behavior.”
