Browns Insurance, a Baltimore-area insurance and financial planning firm with offices serving Anne Arundel County and the greater Washington DC metro region, is announcing a charity event to raise funds that will be used to support research and treatments for children with cancer.

According to research conducted by federal agencies, childhood cancer remains the deadliest type of disease facing children in America today, affecting nearly 16,000 US children per year. However, only 4% of funding directed toward federal cancer research is used to search for treatments and cures for all types of childhood cancers combined.

“We want to end childhood cancer, plain and simple, and we’re organizing this charity event to raise awareness and gather donations that will be used to pursue new lines of research into treatments and cures,” says Stefen Smallwood, owner and principal of Browns Insurance.

To build support for the charity event, Smallwood and his are reaching out to communities throughout the DC area with a new social media portal and email update system. The Browns Insurance team is also planning the production of a full page feature article outlining the charity drive for publication in “Our Hometown,” a monthly webzine hosted by the firm.

Recently, Browns Insurance joined the ranks of the nationwide “Agents of Change” charity involvement campaign. As part of this ongoing program, Smallwood and his team will be selecting and supporting a new nonprofit organization or charitable cause in the Baltimore area every sixty days.
