Browns Insurance, a locally owned insurance and financial planning company that provides coverage to hundreds of families and businesses in the greater DC metro area, is carrying forward a charity initiative begun two months ago in cooperation with the Ronald McDonald House organization and aimed at providing support to the families of hospitalized children.

Ronald McDonald House maintains a network of accessible temporary housing for parents of hospitalized children receiving care in nearby medical facilities. By keeping children and their parents together during periods of high stress and turmoil children are more likely to respond favorably to care, reports the RMH organization.

“We appreciate all the help we’ve already received from the community, but there are still many sick and injured children who need their parents close, so we need a bit more support to see this charity drive through,” says Stefan Smallwood, founder and director of Browns Insurance.

The Browns Insurance team has already established a social media presence and launched an email system to keep local families informed, and the team plans to continue using these to gather more support online. Browns Insurance will also be producing a second feature article for publication in the firm’s online community interest magazine “Our Hometown”: http://www.brownsins.com/Our-Hometown-Magazine_39.

As recent entrants into the national “Agents of Change” movement, Smallwood and the Browns Insurance team plan to continue finding and working with charities, non-profit organizations, and worthwhile causes in the DC area at the rate of one every other month.
