CINCINNATI, March 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pet Wants, the Cincinnati-based franchise focused on providing fresh, healthy, high-quality pet food and products to pet families across the nation, presented awards to five franchisees at the company's national conference on February 19, 2019. The awards included Franchise of the Year Award, a Rookie of the Year Award, a Founder's Award of Excellence and two President's Awards of Excellence.
"Pet Wants has grown to nearly 100 franchises in the last three years since partnering with Franchise Funding Group and we're amazed at the caliber of our franchisees each and every day. We have so many wonderful owners that selecting recipients for these awards was challenging. We are proud of all of our franchisees who are working tirelessly to build their businesses in their local communities and we're excited about what the future holds for Pet Wants," Pet Wants President Scott Hoots said.
Here are details about each award:
Franchisee of the Year – Joe and Laurie Sanfillipo
Pet Wants Cincy West
Joe and Laurie Sanfillipo were recognized as the Franchisee of the Year because of their own business growth as well as their ongoing support of the Pet Wants franchise system by helping other owners, sharing best practices and talking to potential franchisees. The Sanfillipos started their business as a mobile operation in 2017 and expanded to a storefront in 2018. Their work in building a new store set the stage for what is now the brand standard for a Pet Wants store. The Sanfillipos have also seen sales growth every month since their launch.
Rookie of the Year – Nick Saam and Hannah Kim
Pet Wants Jax Beach
Nick Saam and Hannah Kim joined the Pet Wants family in the summer of 2018 and launched their business incredibly quickly and efficiently. With a drive towards executing brand standards, but also an eye towards innovation, they came up with a unique idea to make an immediate impact in their market by using a 25-foot Airstream as a rolling Pet Wants store. They set a new record for mobile franchise sales in their third full month of operation.
Founder's Award of Excellence – Michele Hobbs and Amanda Broughton
Pet Wants Cincinnati
As the founders of Pet Wants, Michele Hobbs and Amanda Broughton have touched the lives of every single person who has experienced Pet Wants – the franchisees, corporate team members, franchisee team members and, most importantly, Pet Wants' customers and their fur babies. They have shed a lifetime of blood, sweat and tears in support of the Pet Wants products, brand and franchise and their entrepreneurial spirit and passion is what helped make Pet Wants what it is today and what it will be tomorrow. This award was created in their honor and, as the founders, they were the first to receive it. Moving forward this award will be presented to franchisees who reflect their passion for Pet Wants.
President's Award of Excellence – Jeff Jenkins
Pet Wants Mountain Maryland
When Pet Wants gives out a President's Award, there's a wide variety of criteria – sales performance, passion for the brand, engagement with other franchisees and the ability to overcome challenges and focus on success. Jeff Jenkins embodies every one of those criteria. Although Pet Wants Mountain Maryland is the least populated Pet Wants territory and the main town is more than 100 miles from any large cities, Jenkins worked tirelessly to grow his business each and every month. He is also active in the community and has become a leader in the Pet Wants system.
President's Award of Excellence – Melissa Mautz
Pet Wants Lexington
Melissa Mautz was one of the first Pet Wants franchisees and she has become a mentor and a sounding board for many owners in the Pet Wants family. She continues to grow her business every month and is aiming to open a second location in 2019. While Mautz goes about her business quietly, she is always quick to help the operations team and other franchisees. Mautz is a positive validator in the Pet Wants system.

Pet Wants only uses high-quality proteins and never uses added sugar, fillers, animal by-products, corn, wheat, soy or dyes.
