Dave Heckard Named President of Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education
PLAINSBORO, N.J. (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- Dave Heckard has been named president of both The Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education, a leader in developing and delivering high-quality continuing education for pharmacy and managed care practitioners, and of ArcMesa Educators, a full-service, non-accredited medical education and communications company.
“This is an exciting and challenging time to be involved in healthcare education,” said Heckard. “The roles of pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and managed care professionals are becoming increasingly important in this new medical marketplace. Through our continuing professional education offerings, we help drive improvements in patient care by enabling these professionals to stay abreast of advances in care and best practices for managing patients in the evolving healthcare landscape.”
The Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education leverages its strong partnerships with Pharmacy Times®, a monthly journal providing practical information pharmacists can use in their daily practice, and The American Journal of Managed Care®, the leading peer-reviewed journal dedicated to issues in managed care, to understand the educational needs of pharmacists and other healthcare providers. It delivers educational resources to meet and exceed these needs through a variety of educational platforms.
Heckard has been instrumental in launching new and innovative programs since joining the continuing professional education office, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Building from the office’s traditional strength in print education, he has driven the expansion to other educational offerings, including live webinars, live meetings and interactive online programs. PharmSkills®, for example, provides health-system pharmacists with hands-on training to enhance their pharmacy practice and improve patient outcomes. Other innovative platforms are under development, Heckard added.
Heckard also has been at the forefront of developing partnerships with key pharmacy organizations to collaborate on educational initiatives. In 2015, The Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education partnered with the Convenient Care Association to develop the Convenient Healthcare and Pharmacy Collaborative, the first of its kind two-day meeting for clinicians and pharmacists working together in a retail setting. Ten continuing education sessions addressed clinical and best-practice examples of how these two professions can work together to improve the quality of care.
In addition to The Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education, Heckard oversees ArcMesa Educators, a full-service, non-accredited medical education and communications company in the Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc., family of businesses. ArcMesa focuses on delivering high-quality education that changes clinician practice and improves patient care. This focus on interdisciplinary education helps to address an unmet need with the prevalence of collaborative patient care and the emergence of accountable care organizations, patient-centered medical homes and integrated delivery networks.
Heckard joined The Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education in May 2012 and has held roles of increasing responsibility. Previously, he was medical education manager at Medical Communications Media, Inc., and divisional sales manager at Forest Laboratories. He has also worked as a physical therapist, manager and physician liaison at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Heckard holds a bachelor of science degree in allied health and health sciences from Gettysburg College and a master’s degree in physical therapy from Arcadia University.
