Impact Investor and Advocate for Sustainable Agriculture Discusses Ways to Make Organic Food Affordable
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 -- On July 17, impact investor and advocate for sustainable agriculture, Philippe van den Bossche, discusses six different ways we can incorporate organic food into our diet without having to empty our wallets.
According to a July 8th, 2013 article published on CNN iReport, entitled, “Ways to Afford Organic Food,” high prices are a common obstacle for families who hope to incorporate organic foods into their diets. Philippe van den Bossche comments on six ways we can maximize our food budgets in order to integrate organic food into our daily diets.
• Go Local. “Local farmers markets grow their produce using their own individual sustainable farming practices allowing them to keep their prices lower,” van den Bossche explains.
• Take advantage of Generic Organic. “Fortunately there are many mainstream grocery chains like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods that carry generic organic product lines,” he says.
• Buy Multiples. van den Bossche elaborates on the obvious: “Most of the time, buying bulk results in lower costs. A great way to maximize your spending power is buying in multiples, especially if they are being offered on sale.”
• Grow your Own Food. There are certain types of organic produce, like tomatoes and herbs, which are easy to grow by at home without being an organic expert. “Growing certain types of organic food in the backyard is a simple and easy way to cultivate sustainable produce without having to pay an outside source for it,” he explains.
• Utilize coupons. van den Bossche explains: “Just like any other type of produce, natural and organic food brands offer coupons that can obviously reduce the amount of money spent.”
• Join Cooperatives. “Cooperatives are buying systems that combine the purchasing power of multiple families to get the best deals on certain things like fresh produce,” says van den Bossche. “They are another cost-effective way to make organic food more affordable.”
Philippe van den Bossche is an impact entrepreneur and investor and Chairman/ Owner of Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA), a leading organic agricultural and horticultural consulting and manufacturing company located in Middlefield, Ohio.
