The 3rd Annual LOVE WALK at The Phoenix Zoo on September 14th Benefits The Dream Center and Mission Africa
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Together, people from all walks of life will gather at the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday, September 14th beginning at 7 a.m. for the annual Love Walk. Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for kids ages 3 – 17, and kids under 3 are free. Proceeds benefit The Phoenix Dream Center, and Mission Africa.
Families and individuals are invited to walk, (or enjoy the view from strollers or wheelchairs) around the perimeter of the zoo twice (5 K); or, those looking for a slower place can opt for the scenic route through the zoo (1.5 miles). The “fun” walk, picking up steam in its’ third year, was launched by Darla Gonzalez, a local humanitarian, office administrator and mother of two. “I have a passion for touching the lives of those living in poverty and despair – right here in our state, and also around the world. So each year I choose a local organization, and an international one to benefit, and ask others to literally walk alongside me. Taking small steps, we can promote the message that love binds us all together.”
Locally, the Phoenix Dream Center serves some 40,000 people in need each month. The non-profit, volunteer driven organization offers affordable shelter for single women and men in transition, shelter and care for victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking, and food and clothing distribution across impoverished neighborhoods across the valley.
Mission Africa is a local non-profit ministry led by Victor Jakpor, a native of Sapele, Nigeria, a region steeped in extreme poverty. He and his team raise funds to empower education by supplying schools with textbooks, latrines and clean water.
