Pines of Sarasota Education & Training Institute presents Seminars about Bathing Challenges and Protecting Relationships in Dementia Care
SARASOTA, Fla. (PRWEB) September 07, 2018 -- Pines of Sarasota Education and Training Institute will host two skill-focused workshops on October 8th and 9th, 2018, on protecting intimate relationships and overcoming bathing challenges in dementia care. Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, an internationally renowned dementia care expert, will be the workshops’ presenter.
In the October 9th workshop from 9am to 12pm, titled “Protecting Intimate Relationships as the Dementia Progresses,” attendees will learn how to manage current and future changes in your marital or life-partner relationship when you and/or your partner are living with dementia. Attendees will also get tips & techniques on how to best protect your finances when the person with dementia can no longer manage them, and how to cope with “caregiver guilt” and feelings of loss or resentment.
The October 10th 9am-12pm workshop will focus on “Strategies to Conquer Bathing Challenges in Dementia Care.” JoAnn Westbrook, Director of Education and licensed Nursing Home Administrator, explains: “Resistance to bathing is a common complaint in dementia care. For most people bathing is a highly personal matter, and that doesn’t change when a person is living with dementia. Common bathing-related tasks such as getting undressed by another person or simply being cold and uncomfortable can trigger resistance. Teepa has a variety of strategies and techniques to offer comfort and dignity while bathing, all based on her 30+ years of experience in the senior care field. We’re thrilled to have her share these skills with the community.”
