No one goes into pregnancy expecting to lose a child. In her new memoir, “Pitter-Pat: A Mother’s Journey from Loss to New Life” (published by Balboa Press), Amy Erickson shares a raw portrayal of what it means to grieve for a child, subtly addressing the pressures of society to heal quickly after loss. The book is available for purchase at: https://www.amazon.com/Pitter-Pat-Mothers-Journey-Loss-Life/dp/1982217901/.
After the unexpected loss of her second child, Gabriel, who was born prematurely and who lived briefly before passing, Erickson struggled to make sense of her life. Three months after Gabriel’s death, she began writing letters to her son. “Pitter-Pat” chronicles the events in Erickson’s life that transpired following her loss. The correspondence reinforces her deep and abiding love for Gabriel, her devotion to his memory, as well as her commitment to telling the world her son lived, he mattered and he will always live on in heaven.
“I believe (the book) will help others experiencing grief to understand and accept that their journey of grief is a normal part of life. When someone we love dies, we grieve. Period,” says Erickson.
Candid and vulnerable, “Pitter-Pat” is an inspiring account that teaches there is no right way to mourn. Rather, Erickson’s journey shows others how grief is expressed through many behaviors. In sharing her story, Erickson lets readers accept their own unique paths in finding their way back to peace.
