After its early release to Plex Pass subscribers, Chromecast support is now available to all Plex users.

Plex announced its new Camera Upload feature on Thursday 3/13, which automatically uploads photos from a smartphone or tablet to a user’s Plex Media Server, making it easier than ever to manage and share photo libraries. Users can now snap photos and rely on Plex to effortlessly integrate them into their Plex Media Server allowing their friends and family to stay up to date with their latest happenings.

With Camera Upload, photos (from a tablet or phone) are wirelessly and instantly synched to users’ Plex Media Server once users return to their home or business and within WiFi range – no need to manually initiate a transfer.

Plex also introduced several additional feature enhancements, including:

  • Chromecast – After its early release to Plex Pass subscribers, Chromecast support is now available to all Plex users. It also has been updated to include support for music and photos, content mirroring (requires the latest iOS or Android app) and enhanced video streaming.
  • Play Queues (iOS and Web) – Allows users to queue up media files for continuous playback and custom enjoyment. With Play Queues, users can shuffle tunes, start a TV series and more – plus, it remembers the queue when the app is restarted. Android and Windows support is right around the corner.
  • Shared Sync – When you share media from a server you now have the ability to grant friends and family permission to sync from your server to their mobile devices for offline playback. Shared Sync for Windows is available for Plex Pass members immediately.
