Pradaxa Lawsuit Update: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes Upcoming Conference in Federal Pradaxa Bleeding Litigation
New York, New York (PRWEB) October 03, 2013 -- A growing number of Pradaxa lawsuits (http://www.pradaxalawsuithelp.com/) filed on behalf of people who allegedly suffered life-threatening episodes of internal bleeding due to their use of the blood thinner continue to move forward in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, a Status Conference will be convened in the Pradaxa bleeding litigation on Tuesday, October 8th, at 9:30 a.m. (In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2385)
“Pradaxa lawsuits continue to be evaluated by our Firm, as we regularly hear from individuals who suffered serious and frightening episodes of internal bleeding, allegedly due to their use of this blood thinner,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm’s Pradaxa lawyers are currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of Pradaxa bleeding.
Pradaxa Bleeding Litigation
According to court documents, 1,579 Pradaxa lawsuits are currently pending in the multidistrict litigation underway in the Southern District of Illinois. The lawsuits accuse Boehringer Ingelheim, the manufacturer of Pradaxa, of marketing the blood thinner despite knowing that the drug could cause dangerous and potentially fatal hemorrhaging in some patients. Plaintiffs further allege that the company failed to provide adequate warnings to doctors and patients regarding the lack of a readily available antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding.
According to a recent Bloomberg.com report, Pradaxa has been the subject of regulatory warnings in several countries since it first came on the U.S. market in October 2010. Most of these warnings have been prompted by the drug’s association with internal bleeding, a known Pradaxa side effect for which there exists no readily available reversal agent. While it was touted as an improvement over warfarin, the hemorrhaging that is sometimes associated with that decades-old blood thinner can be staunched with the administration of vitamin K.* In January, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP), reported that data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration indicated that Pradaxa bleeding is 5 times more likely to result in death compared to warfarin bleeding.
Alleged Pradaxa bleeding victims may be eligible to file a lawsuit against Boehringer Ingelheim to obtain compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
