Pradaxa Lawsuit News: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes Upcoming Status Conference in Federal Pradaxa Bleeding Litigation
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 06, 2013 -- More than 1,700 Pradaxa lawsuits (http://www.pradaxalawsuithelp.com/) filed on behalf of patients who allegedly suffered life-threatening episodes of internal bleeding while using Pradaxa continue to move forward in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court records, the Court is scheduled to hold the proceeding’s next Status Conference on November 18th at 2:30 p.m. (In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2385)
“Our Firm has heard from numerous Pradaxa patients who allegedly suffered from life-threatening bouts of Pradaxa bleeding, a known side effect of the drug for which there is no readily-available antidote. We are pleased to see this proceeding moving forward, and look forward to additional progress as the Pradaxa lawsuits move towards their first bellwether trials next year,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of Pradaxa bleeding side effects.
Pradaxa Bleeding Allegations
Pradaxa is a blood-thinning medication used to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation. According to a recent Bloomberg.com report, Pradaxa has been the subject of regulatory warnings in several countries, mostly due to its association with internal bleeding. Though it was meant to be an improvement over warfarin, bleeding caused by that decades-old blood thinner can be ended via the administration of vitamin K. However, there as yet exists no simple way to reverse Pradaxa bleeding side effects, Bloomberg.com said.*
In October, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP) found that Pradaxa was associated with more adverse event reports in 2012 than any other medication, with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) logging 3,292 adverse events and 582 deaths associated with the blood thinner that year. Most of those reports detailed instances of serious Pradaxa bleeding, the ISMP said. According to the same report, the FDA received only 861 reports of complications in relation to warfarin use, and just 56 deaths.**
Currently, 1,767 Pradaxa lawsuits are pending in the Southern District of Illinois. All of the claims allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to provide adequate warnings to doctors and patients regarding the lack of a readily available antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding. According to court documents, the first trials in the proceeding are expected to begin no later than April 2014.
Alleged victims of Pradaxa bleeding side effects may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other injury-related damages.
