Pradaxa Lawsuits Claim Clinical Trial Data for Approving Blood Thinner May Have Been Tainted, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- Thousands of recently-filed Pradaxa lawsuits (http://www.pradaxalawsuithelp.com/) are alleging that certain researchers and medical institutions may have concealed vital safety data about the blood-thinner in clinical trials that led to its U.S. approval, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
According to a February 15th report from The Spectator.com, many of the 2,300 cases now pending in U.S. federal and state courts claim that affiliates of a medical group and public research university in Canada failed to adequately design and administer the clinical trials that assisted in Pradaxa’s approval process through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).*
Among other things, plaintiffs in these lawsuits allege that researchers also failed to properly maintain data related to the trials, as well as report serious adverse event reports that may have been associated with the blood thinner. Boehringer-Ingelheim, the German company who developed Pradaxa, is partially blamed for the serious and potentially-life threatening internal bleeding injuries alleged in lawsuits now filed in a federal multidistrict litigation underway in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois. “These new developments in the federal Pradaxa lawsuit litigation are of great interest to our Firm, as we continue to hear from individuals and their families who allegedly sustained life-threatening episodes of internal bleeding stemming from use of the drug,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is offering free and confidential case reviews to individuals who may be eligible to file Pradaxa lawsuits.
Pradaxa Lawsuits
According to court records, Pradaxa lawsuits filed in the Southern District of Illinois are continuing to move forward. A Case List updated on February 19th by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation indicates that 2,072 cases have now been filed in the federal litigation on behalf of individuals and their estates who claim that Boehringer-Ingelheim failed to inform patients and their doctors that there is no readily available antidote for reversing Pradaxa internal bleeding side effects. Meanwhile, episodes of internal bleeding associated with the decades-old blood thinner, warfarin, can be stopped with the administration of vitamin K. A Reuters report published earlier in February indicates that Boehringer has acknowledged its involvement in Pradaxa bleeding lawsuits, but maintains that its benefits in preventing strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation should be weighed against side effects they say were known.**
Pradaxa was the first anticoagulant to be approved by the FDA since warfarin, according to the February 13th report.
Patients who may have experienced life-threatening internal bleeding injuries after taking this blood thinner may be eligible to file a Pradaxa lawsuit against Boehringer-Ingelheim.
