The complaints made to the FDA relating to Pradaxa echo what we have heard from our own clients, and are similar to the allegations put forth in thousands of Pradaxa lawsuits currently being litigated in U.S. courts.
New York, New York (PRWEB) March 01, 2014
As Pradaxa lawsuits (http://www.pradaxalawsuithelp.com/ ) continue to mount in federal court, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that a recent media investigation has found that the blood thinner ranks as the most complained about prescription medication in the U.S. According to 7 Action News in Detroit, data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) indicates that Pradaxa has been blamed for 1,158 U.S. deaths and 12,494 serious injuries. Complaints related to Pradaxa outpaced those for any other prescription drug between 2011 and 2012. Among other things, the report noted that Pradaxa was associated with a high risk of internal bleeding. *
“The complaints made to the FDA relating to Pradaxa echo what we have heard from our own clients, and are similar to the allegations put forth in thousands of Pradaxa lawsuits currently being litigated in U.S. courts,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is offering free legal evaluations to individuals who suffered cerebral hemorrhage, gastrointestinal bleeding, and other serious episodes of internal bleeding, allegedly due to Pradaxa.
Pradaxa Bleeding Allegations
According to a recent report from Reuters, Pradaxa was the first among a new class of blood thinners intended to replace warfarin (sold under the brand name Coumadin) to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation. However, there currently exists no readily available antidote to reverse Pradaxa’s blood thinning effects in patients who experience internal bleeding while using the medication. Warfarin bleeding, by contrast, can be stopped easily via the administration of vitamin K.**
In December 2013, the FDA announced a new, large-scale assessment of Pradaxa bleeding rates in relation to warfarin.
According to court documents, more than 2,300 Pradaxa lawsuits have been filed in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois on behalf of individuals who were allegedly injured by Pradaxa. Among other things, the lawsuits accuse Boehringer Ingelheim of failing to provide patients with adequate warnings regarding the risk for internal hemorrhaging, especially the lack of an antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding. The first bellwether trial of a federal Pradaxa lawsuit is scheduled to begin in September.
Individuals who allegedly suffered serious internal bleeding due to Pradaxa may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
