Pradaxa Lawsuit News: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes New Study Pointing to Possible Antidote for Pradaxa Bleeding
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 03, 2014 -- As Pradaxa lawsuits (http://www.pradaxalawsuithelp.com/) that allege the medication caused patients to suffer uncontrollable internal bleeding continue to move forward, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that a new study indicates there could soon be an antidote for Pradaxa’s bleeding side effects. The research, which was presented last week at the American College of Cardiology’s annual scientific session, tested an experimental drug called idarucizumab, also known as aDabi-Fab.*
For the study, 24 male pigs were administered Pradaxa for three days, while six were given a placebo. After a bleeding event was induced in the animals, those who had received Pradaxa were treated with aDabi-Fab at varying doses, while those not exposed to the blood thinner received no treatment. The untreated animals all died, while the mortality rate from bleeding among the group treated with the lowest dose of aDabi-Fab was only 17%. All of the animals treated with higher doses of the antidote survived.
“Although this is an interesting development, unfortunately, any antidote for Pradaxa bleeding will have come too late for patients already allegedly harmed by the drug,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is offering free and confidential case evaluations to individuals who allegedly experienced cerebral hemorrhage, gastrointestinal bleeding, or other episodes of serious internal bleeding due to Pradaxa.
Pradaxa Bleeding Allegations
Pradaxa was brought to market in 2010, and is approved to decrease the risk of strokes in people who suffer from atrial fibrillation. In February, a report aired by 7 Action News in Detroit asserted that Pradaxa may be the most complained about drug in the U.S. According to the broadcast, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has received reports of 12,494 injuries and 1,158 deaths among Pradaxa users since the blood thinner was launched in the U.S. Many of these cases detailed episodes of uncontrollable internal bleeding. **
Court documents indicate that at least 2,488 Pradaxa lawsuits have been filed in a federal multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois on behalf of patients who were allegedly harmed by Pradaxa. The lawsuits point out that internal bleeding is known to be a potential side effect of Pradaxa, but allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to provide warnings regarding the lack of a readily available antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding.
Individuals who allegedly suffered serious episodes of uncontrollable Pradaxa bleeding may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
