“Individuals continue to contact our Firm, after they or a loved one allegedly suffered a frightening episode of Pradaxa internal bleeding. We are pleased to see continued progress in this litigation,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. Pradaxa Bleeding Litigation
Pradaxa was approved in October 2010 to treat patients with atrial fibrillation, and was touted as an improvement over decades-old warfarin, a blood thinner sold under the brand name, Coumadin. However, according to a recent Bloomberg.com report, Pradaxa has been the subject of a number of safety alerts in the U.S. and abroad, most of which related to Pradaxa bleeding side effects. While warfarin bleeding can be stopped by the administration of vitamin k, there is no readily available antidote to stop Pradaxa internal bleeding .* In January, a study published by the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices reported that Pradaxa users who experience internal bleeding are 5 times more likely to die compared to those who suffer internal bleeding while using warfarin.
According to court documents, 1,495 Pradaxa lawsuits are pending in the Southern District of Illinois. All of the claims allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to provide adequate warnings regarding Pradaxa bleeding, particularly the lack of an antidote. The first bellwether trial in the Pradaxa litigation is scheduled to start in September 2014.
Alleged victims of Pradaxa bleeding may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more. Click Here to contact a Pradaxa lawyer at Bernstein Liebhard LLP. To arrange for a free legal consultation, please call 800-511-5092.
