North Carolina Teachers Facing Tougher Licensing Exams

Prospective elementary and special education teachers in North Carolina must now pass MTEL exams to become certified and can use PrepForward’s solutions for support.

New regulations in North Carolina require future teachers pass certification exams from Massachusetts. In an effort to ensure educators are prepared for the classroom, the North Carolina Board of Education has announced that elementary and special education teacher trainees must pass two difficult Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) exams. PrepForward, a leader in online teacher preparation, offers self-paced courses designed to help educators gain a deep understanding of the material and pass the MTEL exams. Individuals need to master this content, not only for the licensing exam, but so they can build their skills and confidence before entering the classroom.

As of October 1, 2014, all elementary (K-6) and special education teachers will be required to pass the following two MTEL exams: Foundations of Reading and General Curriculum. The North Carolina State Board of Education will determine the passing scores for the MTEL exams this summer. The MTEL General Curriculum exam is a computer-based test with two subtests, a mathematics and multi-subject. Many educators struggle to pass the rigorous MTEL math subtest.

“We are proud to support individuals and institutions across North Carolina with effective ways to support K-12 educators in developing mastery of core concepts,” said Mary Stephens, founder of PrepForward. The company has been helping teachers prepare for the MTEL General Curriculum math subtest since it was first introduced. PrepForward has many solutions specifically designed to help teachers pass this exam, including an online diagnostic exam, free webinar, and a self-paced, comprehensive course. North Carolina prospective teachers can join thousands of teachers who have used PrepForward programs to prepare for the MTEL exams.

As experts on MTEL certification exams for teachers, PrepForward helps aspiring teachers master the core content they need to pass the certification exams and maintain high professional standards throughout their careers. Teacher candidates can review core knowledge in each area using a self-paced platform that features targeted lessons, interactive exercises, detailed explanations, rich diagnostic data, full-length MTEL practice tests, and expert instructor support.
