Husson University Theatre Group to Perform "Proof" in The Gracie’s Black Box Theatre
Bangor, Maine (PRWEB) December 01, 2014 -- The Husson University Theatre (HUT) group will perform Proof by David Auburn on December 5, 6 and 7 in the Gracie Black Box Theatre on the educational institution’s Bangor campus. This student-run theater group production is directed by junior Patrick Dube, with set design by Alan Wardwell and lighting design by Joey Morrisette.
Proof is the story of Catherine, the daughter of Robert, a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician. When her father dies, Catherine tries to come to grips with her possible inherited insanity.
Further complicating matters are Hal, one of Robert's ex-students searching through the deceased mathematician's papers, and Claire, Catherine's estranged sister who shows up to help settle the family affairs. Amidst the chaos, Hal stumbles upon a notebook that holds, what is thought to be, scribbling from mathematician’s final days. Upon closer examination, the notebook may hold the answer to one of the world’s oldest mathematical theorems: a proof.
Proof, written by David Auburn, premiered at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City on May 23, 2000 and was directed by Daniel Sullivan. The production appeared on Broadway in October 2000 and ran until January 2003.
The play earned Auburn a Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001. Four years later, Proof was adapted into a feature film directed by John Madden. The film, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins, Jake Gyllenhaal and Hope Davis, earned Paltrow a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in 2006.

Performances take place Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Beardsley Meeting House in the Gracie’s Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for general admission. Seating is limited.
