The Professional Protector Plan® for Dentists Continues National Volunteer Efforts at the 8th Annual Nebraska Mission of Mercy on August 23 – 24, 2013
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- The Professional Protector Plan for Dentists' Mission of Mercy volunteers will join forces with Harold Diers & Company as their endorsed partner and the Nebraska Dental Association and head to Lincoln Nebraska to continue participation in this life changing event. During the Nebraska MOM, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and basic oral health and dietary instruction will be provided to the community free of charge whether they are uninsured or under-insured. Those who show up for care, children, adults, and those who don't have any medically compromising conditions that would prohibit them from receiving care will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event will be open to the community at 5:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Individuals of all ages are welcome.
The PPP continues to volunteer their time at the Mission of Mercy events as a way to give back to the community and help support the dentists who volunteer their time. The thankfulness and smiles of the patients are what keep the PPP volunteers wanting to help the cause as often as possible. In addition to attending the Nebraska MOM, the PPP has four other MOM events on their schedule of attendance: New Mexico MOM, Iowa MOM, New Orleans ADA MOM, and the Arizona MOM. Dates and information for the events can be found on the PPP Facebook page.
Understanding that many people and families today have difficulty affording dental services, Mission of Mercy events provide “no questions asked” care to those in need. According to the American Dental Association, dental disease is almost entirely preventable and oral health is just as important as the health of the rest of your body. Untreated dental disease can lead to serious health problems such as infection, damage to bone or nerve, and tooth loss. Infection from tooth disease can even spread to other parts of the body and in rare cases, can lead to death.
Dental Mission of Mercy events have donated dental services to indigent patients for over a decade. The first dental MOM was held in Virginia, July 2000. MOM events are now held in 17 states and are usually sponsored by state or local dental societies. Over the course of its history, 100,000+ patients have been treated, and over $50 million of donated dental services have been provided by caring dental professionals.
