Pulido~Walker Breaks Into the Top Five Lots at Premiere Napa Valley - Follows 2014 record-breaking debut
Napa, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- The exclusive bottling of Pulido~Walker’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa’s Melanson Vineyard - ‘The Possible II’ - was one of the top five selling Auction lots offered at this year’s record-setting Premiere Napa Valley. International wine importer Nakagawa Wine Company of Tokyo, Japan, purchased the Lot of 60 bottles for $80,000. Of the 225 wineries in the Auction, Pulido~Walker joined a handful that broke through the $1,300 per bottle barrier. All monies raised benefit Napa Valley Vintners’ (NVV) important work to protect and enhance this breakthrough wine region.
“We really wanted to bid on this lot of Pulido~Walker 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon because it is a one-of-a-kind lot from Pritchard Hill’s Melanson Vineyard selected by Thomas Brown,” said Mr. Seiichiro Nakagawa, president, Nakagawa Wine Company. “When I tasted the wine from the barrel, I was shocked with the exotic aroma which I have never experienced before. I am honored to bid on the lot. I cannot wait for the release in October 2016.”
Mr. Seiichiro Nakagawa’s father, Mr. Ichizo Nakagawa, owner, Nakagawa Wine Company, is credited with introducing Napa Valley wines to Japan. NVV recently honored him as an esteemed ambassador of the wine region. Mr. Nakagawa and his company have been key to the Napa Valley's long-term success in the Japanese market.
Pulido~Walker’s award-winning winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, hand-selected and blended wines from his favorite barrel of Clone 7 with the best barrel of Clone 337 to create ‘The Possible II.’ This singular bottling is Brown’s only project from the iconic Pritchard Hill area. At the 2014 Auction, Pulido~Walker’s ‘The Possible’ was the highest selling debut offering, purchased for $65,000. After the 2015 Auction, ‘The Possible’ remains the highest selling debut offering in Auction history.
"We deeply appreciate the amazing talents of our winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and his fearless passion in crafting extraordinary Pulido~Walker single vineyard designate 100% Cabernet Sauvignon authentically reflecting the vineyard’s unique terroir,” said Mark Pulido, proprietor.
Capping a textbook 2013 growing season, Thomas Rivers Brown was graced with a long picking window allowing ripening of this mountain vineyard fruit to proceed beautifully. The powerfully expressed ink-black fruit shows flavors of blueberry, blackberry, licorice, crushed rock, and white flower aromatics. Higher tannins give this savory wine more structure with less weight on the palate. This round, full, and rich Cabernet Sauvignon with marked minerality will become even more astonishing with age.
Focusing solely on single vineyard designates, Pulido~Walker currently crafts wine from two distinctive Napa Valley vineyards where the natural alchemy of geography, soil, climate, and clone combine to yield a wine greater than the sum of its parts. St. Helena’s Panek Vineyard blankets a rocky, gently sloping knoll in the shadow of the Mayacamas Mountains along the old Napa River bed wash, and Melanson Vineyard located on iconic Pritchard Hill with its steep and rugged, boulder-strewn grounds.
Pulido~Walker is currently planting the best 15 acres at its 115 acre Mount Veeder Estate, with three quarters to Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Chardonnay, with clones selected by Thomas Rivers Brown.
Proprietors Mark Pulido and Donna Walker grew up in pharmacy families, and this early common experience is integral to the Pulido~Walker philosophy. Their scientific backgrounds make Mark and Donna precise, inquisitive, and detailed; they know that perseverance and attentive observation yield results worth waiting for.
Pulido~Walker’s wine label is inscribed with an ancient apothecary weight bearing the seasonal symbols of alchemy. This Old World instrument of precise measure expresses the family’s dedication to the perfection of every element to craft extraordinary wine. This second successful offering of Pulido~Walker at Premiere Napa Valley is another step in Mark and Donna’s patient pursuit of ‘The Possible.'
