Urban, Broadway renewal at odds in Rajiv Kapoor’s new fiction
North Haledon, N.J. (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- A Broadway actress attempts to restore her family’s faith while living in New York City in the new fiction by author Rajiv Kapoor, “Lights: Despair, Faith, and Hope on Broadway” (published by Abbott Press).
Vera is a former Broadway star raising her two young children in a hotel in Times Square. Her life is interwoven with the surrounding environment of decay and urban decadence known as the “armpit of http://www..nyc.gov/ [New York]”. As she struggles to save her children from the outside world full of vagrants, pimps and drug dealers, Vera’s hopes are reborn when a rejuvenation of Broadway and midtown Manhattan begins. Will Vera and her children be able to rise from the depths of despair and breathe life back into their dreams? Will they find meaning in their lives on the “Great White Way”?
An excerpt from “Lights”:
“A young critic at the New York Herald by the name of Jake Alexander was especially enthusiastic about her performance and gave her great reviews. ‘A new star has been born and Vera’s performance brings alive the desolate life of O’Neil’s young heroine in a natural talent that is so fresh and yet so ageless. (...) Her final scenes will be scorched into the audience’s memories and no one can come away unmoved by her enactment of her character’s moral struggles and lonely despair.’”
