Ray Bumgardner gathers sectarian skeins and unifies them in one, historical volume
ELIZABETH CITY, N. C. (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Supported by Apocrypha and the work of Roman historian Flavius Josephus for the history of Judea of the aforementioned four hundred, author Ray Bumgardner paints a realistic portrait of that twilight time, a chaotic period defined Hellenistic, Roman and Hasmonean political intrigue. “Gospels One” combines the four evangelical gospels written by John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew into one, fully-detailed work focusing on the historical Jesus. The author’s brilliantly logical mind and the four New Testament Gospels form the solid bases for the book.
Bumgardner uncovers the life of Herod from Idumea, later to be known as Herod the Great, who happens to be the ruler of Judea during the birth of Jesus Christ. After a prologue that places Herod’s “kingship” of Judea (a Roman province, or one-fourth of a Roman province) in historical perspective, Bumgardner proceeds to the book proper, the parentage of Jesus, his birth, the Magi whose findings influenced Herod to order the death of all the Jews’ firstborn son and so on. These are familiar territory for Christians, if not the whole of mankind.
What distinguishes Bumgardner’s work is the careful re-assessment of Jesus’ life as informed by all the Evangelists, known in Biblical scholarship to support the four factions then current in Jewish political life and nascent Christian persuasions. These factions would become the power parties of future Christian domination. The author collates all the data in the gospels that jive together and builds a logical framework based on the socio-political climate of that time for details to be found only in one or two evangelical works.
Attempting to heal the various fractures brought by sectarian division, Bumgardner shows the way to a summation that unites a Christianity faced by the final revelations promised to it by its savior.
