Event teaches young people business and entrepreneurship skills

Corporate citizenship is a very important part of our overall goals in Washington, D.C., and we are looking forward to serving as volunteers to assist these talented and innovative young people.

RCN Business, a communications provider delivering network solutions for voice, data and video, announces today that it is a sponsor for Lemonade Day 2015. Lemonade Day is a national not-for-profit organization that empowers young entrepreneurs by teaching them business skills. RCN’s participation furthers the company’s commitment to serving their local communities and in encouraging leadership and real-world life skills in youth today.

The format of Lemonade Day-D.C. is unique from other Lemonade Days across the country in that it pairs George Washington University School of Business students with local youth to offer both a mentorship and learning opportunity. The project impacts both local youth and college students through service learning, as the college students are asked to educate Washington, D.C.’s third- through seventh-graders. More than 2,000 participating youth build their lemonade stands, sell their products, make a profit and experience entrepreneurship firsthand. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, April 11.

RCN Business is serving in several capacities during Lemonade Day-D.C. RCN Business became involved due to Lemonade-D.C.’s unique fundamental commitments:

  • To provide trained mentors with the curriculum to any teacher or youth leader.
  • To have a strong presence in each of D.C.’s eight wards.
  • To make the program accessible to all D.C. students in grades three through seven.
  • To provide students, who might otherwise not have access, with start-up materials for their Lemonade Day stand.
  • To provide creative opportunities for the community and support young D.C. entrepreneurs.
