RCN to Carry the SEC Network, Offering New Option for Sports Fans
Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) August 14, 2014 -- RCN, an industry-leading provider of high-speed Internet, digital TV and phone services, announced today an agreement with ESPN – through a comprehensive multi-year distribution agreement between the NCTC and the Walt Disney Company – to carry the SEC Network when the channel launches on August 14, 2014. The upcoming college sports network will be available to RCN customers in all markets where it provides service, including Boston, Chicago, Lehigh Valley (PA), New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The network will launch ahead of the first SEC 2014-14 college football season game, Texas A&M vs. South Carolina, on August 28 at 5 p.m. CT.
Developed by ESPN and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as part of a twenty-year partnership, the network will air 45 SEC football games, 100 men’s basketball games, 60 women’s basketball games, 75 baseball games, 50 softball games and additional events from the SEC’s 21 annual sports. Programming will also include studio shows, nationally competitive events, news and information, expert analysis and features focused on SEC’s member schools.

The SEC Network will be available to current and new RCN Digital TV subscribers on the Premiere Sports Tier, SD channel 385 and HD channel 573 in most areas (SD channel 405 and HD channel 1405 in Lehigh Valley, PA).

The Southeastern Conference and ESPN have signed a 20-year agreement through 2034 to create and operate a multiplatform network which will launch August 14, 2014. The new network and its accompanying digital platform will air SEC content 24/7 including more than 1,000 events in its first year.
