Manh Dang shares daily reflections on how to appreciate and find the beauty in everything in The Fields: Our Journey through Medicine, Mission, Life, and Faith.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Fields: Our Journey through Medicine, Mission, Life, and Faith is Manh Dang's latest book which he used as a means to share his daily reflections with his audience. Starting out by posting his thoughts on his social media account, he mainly talks about how everybody should appreciate the ordinary things around them, such as quality time with loved ones on holidays and the subtle beauty of God's other creations. He also shares fictional stories depicting random acts of compassion and kindness and the life-changing impact these deeds have on the lives of others.
"While walking through the fields of life, we should strive to live well, love well, do well, and fight well if we must," the author writes as he reminds his readers that while eternal life comes after the earthly one, the latter must not be taken for granted because it is where a person learns to appreciate what they have, discover their purpose, and pursue it to the best of their ability. The author continues, "Another simple truth is God, whom we'll walk with some day in His field of eternity, will not abandon us as we walk through our fields of life on earth."
The book often sheds a positive light on various situations, but its author doesn't hide the harsh truths of the modern world such as poverty, illnesses, and personal loss. Most of these forms of suffering are prevalent in countries with socio-economic and political turmoil, but people from these places are the most hardworking the author has ever met, which he witnessed many times while working as a missionary doctor. He admires the adaptability of the patients and their families, as well as the resilience of nurses and other hospital workers who draw strength from a selfless desire to serve their people.
As a practicing oncologist, Manh Dang got used to the sight of people suffering and dying because of cancer. He compares the challenge posed by this disease to the conflict between the Israelites and the Philistines, particularly David, the shepherd boy, and Goliath, the soldier. "It is in the darkest hours of our lives that He fought the hardest for us. It is when we're weak that His strength is sufficient," the author says man's refusal to give up in the face of adversity despite their weakness comes from a deep-rooted faith in Him. "Even when we doubt, He still believes in us. Even when we break His heart, His longing for us is unbroken. Even when we turn our backs, His eyes still cast a loving gaze. Our lives may not be perfect but His love for us is."
After growing up during the Vietnam War, leaving his home country in 1975, and finishing his medical degree, Manh C. Dang began working as an oncologist in Anaheim, California and currently at the Clearview Cancer Institute in Huntsville, Alabama. Beyond the walls of his practice and the tasks he pursues as a field missionary, he lives happily with his wife, Karen, and enjoys spending time with her and his four children by traveling, lounging on the beach, and doing other activities. He eventually compiled many of his empowering social media posts into his new book, The Fields: Our Journey through Medicine, Mission, Life, and Faith.
