CORVALLIS, Ore., Oct. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Windermere Willamette Valley Broker Kathleen Hutchinson is calling on the community to volunteer for the annual Pastega Christmas Light Display, put on by the Pastega Family Foundation at the Benton County Fairgrounds. This free drive-through tradition has brought the community together for nearly four decades.
"Volunteers start putting this Christmas masterpiece together in the last week of October and it takes thousands of hours of volunteer time to make the magic happen, so getting volunteers is crucial," said Hutchinson, volunteer coordinator for the Pastega Christmas Light Display.
The Pastega family started the light show in 1981 at the Pepsi bottling plant they owned in Corvallis. This light show continued at that location for more than 30 years, growing each year as more holiday scenes like Charlie Brown and the Peanuts characters, Disney figures, The Grinch Whoville, Super Heros and many more.
"Alma Pastega was an artist. She would create figures and paint them to display," added Hutchinson. "This light display grew bigger over the years when it incorporated more Santas, angels, elves and last year added characters from the children's movie Frozen."
It now includes more than 250 figures and mechanized scenes. Each year this wonderful celebration starts the day after Thanksgiving and ends on New Year's Day.
Visitors can come out to see the Pastega Christmas Light Display from 5 to 10 p.m. daily through January 1 at the Benton County Fairgrounds, 110 SW 53rd Street. Drivers can enter the light show through the Reservoir Avenue entrance, drive slowly and dim their headlights.
Business and residents who want to volunteer can contact Hutchinson directly at (541) 760-2529 or at [email protected].
In addition to the Pastega Christmas Light Display, Hutchinson is involved in numerous organizations, including the Rotary Club of Greater Corvallis; The Benton County Veterans Memorial,Stove Team International, with which she went to Guatemala to do volunteer work this year and will go again in March 2019; and Furniture Share, which takes donated furniture and gives it to low-income people/families in need. She was also a sponsor and participant in a recent golf tournament for the local Boys and Girls Club.
