Winnebago Public Library District Launches Digital Magazine Service
Winnebago, IL (PRWEB) October 03, 2013 -- Winnebago Public Library District (Winnebago, IL), in partnership with RBdigital from Recorded Books (Prince Frederick, MD), is pleased to announce the availability of Zinio for Libraries. Through the library’s website, Winnebago Public Library District patrons now have unlimited simultaneous access to complete digital magazines, which can easily be viewed on most Internet-enabled devices inside or outside of the library. Zinio provides the ability to search inside, read, share, and save digital content. Bloomberg Business Week, Field & Stream, Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, O, The Oprah Magazine, Readers Digest, and Seventeen are just a few of the popular titles available through the Winnebago Public Library’s subscription to Zinio for Libraries.
“We are excited to introduce this new service to the community,” said Board President Irv Koning. “Zinio for Libraries is an opportunity to extend our services to those who may not be able to come into the library to read a magazine and to those who increasingly use mobile devices for school, work, and recreational reading and study.”
Mr. Koning noted that an added benefit of the Zinio for Libraries service has been the opportunity to partner with Winnebago Community Unit School District #323. Library and school media staff are cooperating to introduce Zinio to students and parents in the community through in school orientations and use of digital magazines for student assignments. In-school orientations will begin with the high school. The partnership has also enabled the schools to support digital magazines of value to students and faculty that the library might not otherwise have been able to purchase.
The library is continuing to purchase magazines in print format and they are available for those who visit the library to enjoy. Zinio for Libraries is also accessible at the library through its public access computers. The Board and staff see Zinio for Libraries as the first stage in the introduction of eResources for district residents, as the library strives to “enrich and empower residents by providing access to information, ideas and recreation through a variety of well-organized resources and services that evolve with the changing needs of the community.” (From the library’s mission statement)
