The Ranch to Sponsor Fundraising Event and Workshop About Eating Disorder Recovery
Nunnelly, TN (PRWEB) April 01, 2014 -- The Ranch’s eating disorder program in Tennessee is sponsoring two special events featuring Jenni Schaefer, songwriter and author of Almost Anorexic, Goodbye Ed, Hello Me, and Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence From Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too.
The Ranch will sponsor “An Evening of Song and Story” on April 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., benefitting the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee. The event will include Schaefer’s compelling personal narrative of her descent into an eating disorder and her recovery. In addition, Rivers Rutherford, singer-songwriter and composer of several number-one country hits including "Ain't Nothing 'bout You" performed by Brooks & Dunn, will perform at the event.
The event will be held at the Belle Meade Country Club, in Nashville, Tenn. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m.; dinner and the program will begin at 7 p.m. A variety of sponsorship levels are available for this event. Schaefer will also share her story at a workshop at The Ranch in Nunnelly, Tenn. on April 18, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Open to Ranch clients and alumni, the workshop will include live music as well as group discussion and individual exercises.
Schaefer’s own experience with an eating disorder enables her to bridge the personal and the clinical in dealing with a range of issues, including addiction and perfectionism, eating and body image, self-esteem and personal empowerment. She had graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in biochemistry and was pursuing a career in music when forced to confront her eating disorder.
“I found happy and purposeful living the hard way—through experience and lots of falling down,” she said.
A frequent speaker and media personality seen on The Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Phil, and Today, Schaefer is chair of the Ambassadors Council of the National Eating Disorders Association.
