Technology is altering our very understanding of what it means to be in a relationship.

Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, a noted psychotherapist, author and clinical educator, and a renowned authority on intimacy in the modern era, will share his expertise in a presentation titled “Sex Addiction 101 – Understanding the Basics of Sexual Addiction in the Digital Age” on Aug. 21 as a featured speaker at the National Conference on Addiction Disorders in downtown Denver.

The four-day conference, set for Aug. 18-21 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, is both an educational and networking opportunity for professionals working in addiction prevention, treatment, aftercare and management, and offers participants a total of 22.50 CE credits and six ethics credits.

Weiss, whose work and writings have helped advance an understanding of how sex and technology intersect, will discuss the rapidly changing nature of our personal connections in an increasingly digital world. “In a single generation, we’ve overturned eons-old patterns of social interaction,” he explains. “Now, we’re left with questions such as, do you have to meet someone to know them or to fall in love with them? What is intimacy when sex can be virtual? What is infidelity? Technology is altering our very understanding of what it means to be in a relationship.”

Attendees will learn how our age influences our view of technological change, gain insights into healthy and unhealthy forms of “life online,” and be brought up to speed on several emerging technologies that can help improve addiction treatment outcomes.

Weiss, who has more than three decades of experience treating sexual addiction and intimacy disorders, is the senior vice president of clinical development for Elements Behavioral Health, a nationwide addiction and mental health treatment network. He is also the author of several highly regarded books, including Sex Addiction 101: A Basic Guide to Healing from Sex, Love, and Porn Addiction and is the co-author of several others, including Always Turned On: Sex Addiction in the Digital Age. His newest work, to be released later this year, is a step-by-step relationship-saving guide for men caught cheating, titled Out of the Dog House.
