First and Only 100% Recyclable Sneaker Launches Second Collection
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) November 05, 2013 -- The second generation of the world’s first fully recyclable, landfill-free sneakers was announced on Kickstarter. ReKixx designs fashionable shoes that won’t be included in the over 300 million pairs of shoes that will be thrown away this year in the United States. Gary Gagnon, the man behind ReKixx, is working toward decreasing that number by providing a 100 percent recyclable sneaker option made from a blend of plastic, polyresin fabric and rubber. The new line will boast trendy styles from high tops to mary-janes to music inspired sneakers. These sneakers with a purpose strive to promote recycling awareness and sustainability, without sacrificing comfort or fashion.
“I have been a strong advocate for recycling since high school. ReKixx allows me to spread awareness about the importance of landfill diversion, sustainability, green living and corporate responsibility,” says Gagnon. “Our second collection adds new styles that will attract a wide variety of people who help advance improvements in recycling while maintaining a sense of style.”
With more than 1,000 pairs of the first collection being worn today, ReKixx wearers claim their shoes to be extremely comfortable, easy to break in and form fitting. “People ask me about my sneaks every time I wear them. They’re comfortable like Uggs and actually true to size," says a ReKixx fan.
ReKixx are lightweight with a flat sole and sturdy rubber bottom that provides a great walking grip. The uppers are made of a breathable fabric that resembles canvas. These earth-friendly sneakers have a cushy padded insole, a soft inner lining and a rubber-capped toe box that gives ample room for the toes.
Every ReKixx sneaker is classified as, and labeled with, the #5 recycling symbol, which is the same as most yogurt containers and ketchup bottles. Once they’ve been grown out of or worn out, the entire ReKixx sneaker can be put in any curbside-recycling bin that accepts #5 plastics. Or, to guarantee the sneakers will remain completely landfill-free, Gagnon encourages people to send their used sneakers back to him and he’ll provide a discount on their next pair of ReKixx. Gagnon’s recycling partners process old ReKixx from laces to the sole. They are ground, melted and pelletized to be “ReKixx-ed” into new products and materials.
ReKixx are available in six new styles, including Green Valor high tops, Sweet Mary-Jane mary-janes, Convertible Black slip-ons, and Message in Green, Retro Black and Classic Rock sneakers. Sizes range from youth 4 (women’s 6) to a men’s 12 (women’s 14). ReKixx may be purchased starting at $45 up to $75.

About ReKixx
Gary Gagnon founded ReKixx, formerly ReMyxx, in 2009 based on his passion for recycling. ReKixx are the only 100 percent recyclable sneakers on the market today. These recyclable sneakers provide a vehicle to drive zero landfill impact, sustainability and stress the importance of recycling. By way of a propriety process and a specially formulated mix of materials, every part of a ReKixx sneaker is classified and labeled with the #5 recycling symbol, meaning they can be tossed into any curbside recycling bin that accepts #5 recyclables. Several colors and styles are available for men, women and children.
