During the show, many singers’ and actors’ reactions were filmed. Rapper Drake did not look up at the performance, while boy band One Direction looked stunned. Taylor Swift was filmed looking horrified and covering her eyes with her hands during the performance. Brooke Shields, who played Miley’s mom on Hannah Montana called the performance “desperate” on NBC’s Today.
During her run as Disney’s Hannah Montana, Cyrus enjoyed huge success. She became a role model to many young girls who bought her merchandise and watched the show religiously. Just two years after the show ended in 2011, the starlet’s career appears to be on a downward spiral, with her reputation as a bad girl on the rise.
“It’s just sad,” online reputation management expert and CEO of JW Maxx Solutions, Walter Halicki said. “She is idolized by so many young girls who now see her objectifying herself on stage. What are they supposed to think?”
While the damage to her reputation is severe, it is not irreparable. Cyrus needs to show young women and the world that she can be responsible and go back to the role model that she used to be.
“She’s a beautiful young lady,” Halicki said. “She doesn’t need to try so hard. The harder she seems to try, the more it seems to work against her.”
