RESNET 2014 Building Performance Conference Highlights Appraisal Challenges and Opportunities
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- The 2014 RESNET Building Performance Conference is the premier national forum on home energy ratings, existing home retrofits, building codes and energy policy. The 2014 conference theme is “Power of Performance”. This year the conference is providing not one but two conferences sessions on real estate appraisal.
For years the energy rating industry has worked on the issue of measuring energy efficiency, creating market demand, consumer awareness and ultimately valuing energy efficiency which is the domain of the appraisal world.
The first session is titled: Valuing the Future: Keys to Appraisal of High-Performance Building.
This Appraisal Panel session describes new success with recognized real estate valuations for high-performance projects; accepted industry guidelines for real estate appraisal and methods for assigning value utilizing HERS Audits for quantification for the green building industry.
Other session topics will include trends: brown discounts verses green premiums; neighborhood revitalization; communities embracing renewable energy and water conservation through
rainwater harvesting.
Panelists include:
John Brenan, Director Appraisal Issues Board, The Appraisal Foundation
Teresa Lopez, LEED Associate, Licensed Mortgage Banker-Security National Mortgage, GEM
Doug Rives, SRA, Certified Appraiser, Owner, Rives Valuation Services, Austin, TX

The second session is titled: Appraisal Institute’s Residential Green & Energy Efficient Addendum
This Appraisal session focuses on the Appraisal Institute's recently adopted new Form 820.04: Residential Green and Energy Efficient Addendum. This is the first residential green and energy efficient appraisal report addendum made by appraisers, for appraisers. The addendum includes the HERS Index Score of the home. Equally important, RESNET has entered into an agreement with the Appraisal Institute to incorporate the Residential Green and Energy Efficient Addendum into rating software programs. Raters will be able with a push of a button complete the addendum in addition to the rating report. It will also be a very cost effective way for builders to have appraisers consider the energy efficiency features of the home.
Session presenter:
Sandra K. Adomatis, SRA, Adomatis Appraisal Service
RESNET 2014 "The Power of Performance" is being held at the Atlanta Sheraton from February 24 - 26, 2014
