In “Wide Place In The Road: A Great Generation Love Story” (published by AuthorHouse), author Richard C. Kirkland’s new novel, readers are taken into a heartwarming love story about Jessie Rascoa and a group of teenagers reaching for maturity and love in a small mountain community during the Great Depression.
“The book is a great generation love story,” says Kirkland. “It is a historical story from out of the past that hasn’t been written yet.”
The story is based loosely on Kirkland’s youth. He takes readers through what life was like during the Great Depression in a small mountain community. He also takes them through his experiences during World War II, and reveals how these experiences are being lost with the passing of his generation.
An excerpt from “Wide Place In The Road”:
“One of the Japanese pilots recognized that a collision was imminent and broke off the frontal attack. The other one, probably a Japanese Alvin Pyeatt, did not. And in the last instant, just before the blinding flash and oblivion, the American Alvin Pyeatt grinned. It was as though he was back at the ranch water trough charging that ole Hereford bull.”
