Leading property investor turned respected real estate investment educator, Rick Otton, has recently recorded a podcast in which he discusses the key components needed to ignite an individual’s passion.

“Whether it’s investing in property, playing darts, or rock climbing, passion is the key ingredient to getting better at any pursuit”, said Mr. Otton.

“Too often, people confuse passion with financial reward, reasoning that if something is rewarding for their bank account it will also be a fulfilling pursuit for them to follow. Unfortunately that reasoning is flawed, and is a quick way to burn out or lose interest in the process. This often means that you will fail or won’t achieve the results you set out to achieve” said Mr. Otton.

“For example, if you want to get into property investing, it’s important to find a passion for what interests you in that area. For me personally, it’s structuring deals to sell properties and get income streams for investors, and educating folks about how to grow their wealth” said Mr. Otton. “For others it may be travelling to find far-flung rural properties, finding the best apartment opportunities in capital cities, or locating unloved gems in the suburbs that need a bit of work to really shine” Mr. Otton went on to say.

“Whatever the passion, it’s important to goal set and measure your progress. Doing this can have a snowball effect for investors, as they are encouraged by successes and are motivated to do more and do it better. On the flip side, tracking progress against your goals also allows you to identify where you’re making mistakes and prevent prolong periods of mistakes and losses” said Mr. Otton.
