Real estate agents around Australia are starring in movie and cartoon inspired commercials in order to attract more buyers into a property they’re selling, News.com.au reported on 11 April 2014.
One agent from South Australia explained that his videos create a lot of interest and a sense of urgency for the houses he’s selling, and so far it’s helped him sell a home 12 days after being listed with him.
“People have been using marketing techniques like: posting signs and placing advertisements for a very long time to attract people into buying a certain product, service, or property. Marketing, however, is not all about what it says and how it looks. An effective marketing strategy has to grab people’s attention and cut through the clutter,” according to Rick Otton, owner and director of We Buy Houses.
“Unfortunately, cutting through the clutter is difficult nowadays, so people have to think of more creative ways to promote their products. While some use different kinds of media for promotion like videos to make viral content or infographics about interesting statistics, in my opinion, I believe that going ugly with your materials is the easiest and most cost-effective way to break out of the rest of the pack,” he said.
Mr. Otton then revealed in an interview for his Power Property Profits Pack that ugly marketing has helped launched many of his students’ businesses of buying and selling houses.
“When you think about it, going ugly with your marketing strategies is an effective way to promote your business for 2 reasons. First, you won’t have to spend too much on the materials, since you can use any tools that you have on hand. Second, your message easily stands out from the crowd, because it doesn’t look like anything else out there,” he discussed.
“Many of my students have put signs on cars, walked around with a board, or placed an easy to read handwritten sign in front of the property for sale, to promote the properties they were selling, and it has led them to many phone calls and successful transactions,” Mr. Otton shared.
