Gender-Specific Residential Addiction Treatment Program for Women Opens at Right Step Dallas-Fort Worth
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- Right Step, a network of inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment programs in Texas, recently opened a 28-bed residential drug rehab for women ages 18 and over at its Dallas-Fort Worth treatment center. This program features:
• Individualized treatment delivered by an all-female staff
• Master’s level therapists who specialize in women’s issues
• A gender-specific environment with separate housing, staff, services, programming and activities
• Treatment that blends 12-Step recovery principles with proven, evidenced-based therapies
“Women have unique needs in substance abuse treatment,” said Maeve O’Neill, MEd, LCDC, LPC-S, executive director of Right Step Dallas-Fort Worth. “In a gender-specific environment, women can develop close bonds with other women who understand what they’re going through. They can focus on their own healing and build the types of relationships that will support rather than threaten their recovery.”
“We wanted to give women a treatment option that makes the difficult decision to get help a bit easier and makes the recovery process as smooth and comfortable as possible,” said Jonathan Ross, Right Step’s Regional Vice President. “With this gender-specific program, we’ve created a warm, welcoming environment for women to heal.”
As part of Right Step’s comprehensive approach to the treatment of addictions and co-occurring disorders, the women’s program offers:
• Comprehensive Assessments
• Medical Detox
• Individual and Group Counseling
• Family Group
• Community Group
• Spirituality Awareness
• Relapse Prevention
• 12-Step Meetings
• Educational Classes
• Recreational Activities (yoga, gym, meditation, team sports, group outings and more)
Recognizing that many women who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction also have anxiety, depression, emotional trauma or other mental health issues, Right Step Dallas-Fort Worth provides integrated dual diagnosis treatment that addresses all of these issues at the same time.
“Many women who struggle with addiction have a history of abuse or other types of trauma,” said O’Neill. “In an all-female environment, women typically feel more comfortable sharing personal information and delving into the sensitive issues that underpin their problems with drugs and alcohol than they do in a co-ed treatment setting.”
In January 2014, Right Step’s women’s program will introduce a specialized substance abuse and intimacy disorders (SAID) unit that addresses both drug and alcohol addiction and related sexual/intimacy concerns. The SAID curriculum, developed by internationally renowned addictions expert and author Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, was introduced in January 2013 at Promises Malibu in a Substance Abuse and Intimacy Disorders program for men. Right Step’s SAID program will address the needs of women who may enter rehab specifically for substance abuse, but who also require an integrated focus on their sexual behavior, sexual trauma history, and/or long-standing problems with developing and maintaining adult intimacy.
