RiseSmart CEO Sanjay Sathe explains company's March Madness office pool for transitioning workers

Finding new employment can be difficult; and things like the RiseSmart Challenge help employees enjoy a fun office ritual even as they are transitioning to their next jobs.

RiseSmart, the leader in enterprise career management solutions, today announced the launch of the third-annual RiseSmart Madness Challenge, its March Madness office pool open to anyone in America who is looking for work.

The RiseSmart Madness Challenge gives unemployed people across the country the chance to have fun and win big in one of the annual rites of office life.

“We’ve enjoyed organizing the RiseSmart Madness Challenge the last two years and look forward to doing it again,” said Sanjay Sathe, president and CEO of RiseSmart. “Fun activities such as office pools help employees form stronger bonds with one another and with their employers. In the long run, the benefits of office activities like this far outweigh any temporary reduction in productivity. Finding new employment can be difficult; and things like the RiseSmart Madness Challenge help employees enjoy a fun office ritual even as they are transitioning to their next jobs.”

More than half of employees – 57 percent – participate in a March Madness office pool, according to a survey by the Society for Human Resource Management. While many employers once viewed such activities as detrimental to productivity, they are becoming increasingly aware of the positive impacts. The survey noted how 70 percent of employers responding cited relationship building as a positive aspect of office pools. Other positive aspects mentioned were team-building, employee engagement, and improved manager/employee relationships.

“Quite often, searching for a job is itself a full-time job,” Sathe said. “Like any job, it can have highs and lows, which creates significant stress. Participating in activities like the RiseSmart Madness Challenge helps job seekers re-energize and re-engage.”

Participants can sign up through Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/RiseSmart/app_1471899216355022. Working much like a typical office pool, RiseSmart Madness Challenge participants access their tournament brackets online. Winners receive special recognition and prizes including an iPad Air, a Kindle Fire and an Apple TV.

“Through the years, we have noted that those who have fun in their job searches find work faster and feel more fulfilled in their new positions,” says Sathe. “The RiseSmart Madness Challenge helps in this process and we’re excited to open the Challenge to everyone in America who is looking for work. Best of luck to everyone.”
