Our Firm is representing a number of Risperdal lawsuit plaintiffs in the Pennsylvania litigation, all of whom allegedly experienced excessive male breast growth due to treatment with this medication.
New York, New York (PRWEB) May 27, 2015
Hundreds of Risperdal lawsuits (http://www.risperdallawsuit2014.com/) filed on behalf of individuals who allegedly suffered gynecomastia (male breast growth) and other complications related to the use of the antipsychotic drug continue to move forward in a mass tort litigation currently underway in Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. According to court documents, the litigation is proceeding with its bellwether trial program, as the third trial involving Risperdal’s alleged association with gynecomastia is scheduled to get underway today. (Case No. 1303-01812)
“Our Firm is representing a number of Risperdal lawsuit plaintiffs in the Pennsylvania litigation, all of whom allegedly experienced excessive male breast growth due to treatment with this medication. We will be monitoring the progress of this third bellwether trial closely, as its outcome may provide valuable insight into how other juries could rule in similar gynecomastia cases,” said Sandy A. Liebhard, a partner at Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to provide Risperdal lawsuit consultations to men and boys who allegedly developed gynecomastia due to their use of the medication.
Court documents indicate that just over 1,320 Risperdal lawsuits have been filed in the Pennsylvania mass tort program, all of which accuse Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen Pharmaceuticals unit of failing to adequately warn patients and doctors about the medication’s association with gynecomastia and other serious complications. The companies are also accused of intentionally concealing research that revealed Risperdal’s potential to increase the body’s production of prolactin, a hormone which plays a role in female breast development. Plaintiffs point out that excessive levels of prolactin have also been linked to the development of gynecomastia in men and boys. (In Re: Risperdal Litigation, Case Number 100300296)
According to court records, the Pennsylvania litigation concluded its first two bellwether trials involving Risperdal and gynecomastia earlier this year. The first trial ended on February 24th, with the jury awarding $2.5 million to an autistic man who experienced excessive breast growth after taking Risperdal as a child. (Case No. A-196444). The second trial concluded on March 20th, with the jury finding that Johnson & Johnson and Janssen’s warnings about male breast growth were inadequate. However, the plaintiff was not awarded any monetary damages because the panel concluded that he had not proven that Risperdal caused his condition. (Case No. 130301803)
Risperdal patients who allegedly developed gynecomastia connected with its use may be eligible to file their own lawsuit. To learn more about the ongoing Risperdal litigation, please contact Bernstein Liebhard LLP for a free case review by visiting the Firm’s website, or by calling 800-511-5092.
