Written in Italian and set in Italy during World War II, the book follows Maria and Gianna, two university students with vastly different philosophies on life. Though their views differ, the two grow to be close friends, respectfully debating one another’s ideas to better understand all sides of philosophies regarding the ongoing war.

“My years as an educator revealed certain universal aspects of humanity to me,” says Cipriani. “The indisputable facts of history and the soft nature of the human heart are not opposing ideas, but intertwined paths.”
