Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner at Clifford Law Offices, will be participating in a panel on “Beginning with the End in Mind – Classic Chicago Closings” at the American Bar Association (ABA) Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The ABA Section of Litigation is sponsoring this program. Others on the panel include the Hon. Virginia Kendall and Hon. Jorge L. Alonso, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and Carrie Hamilton, Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago.

Part of the discussion will be the classic closing argument that Clifford made in the Rachel Barton case in 1999, a month-long trial of a young violinist who was run over by a Metra train and survived, receiving a $29.6 million verdict in Cook County. The closing argument of the criminal trial of former Governor Rod Blagojevich also will be used as an example for discussion.

Joseph P. Beckman, of Hellmuth & Johnson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will moderate the Chicago panel. The program, which offers continuing legal education credit, will be held Friday, July 31st, at 2 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel.

Honorary chairs of the Section of Litigation Meeting in Chicago are Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke, Hon. James F. Holderman (Ret.) of the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, and Chicago Corporation Counsel Stephen Patton.

The American Bar Association Meeting begins July 28 and runs through August 4th, 2015.
