Richmond, New Zealand (PRWEB) November 11, 2013 -- A hound is a witty canine that can track animals through their powerful senses. They are reliable companions to hunters. In his new publication, “Herbert the Hound Dog,” author Ross Stevenson uncovers an adventure-filled tale that will captivate the readers’ imagination and will take them on a journey where an important lesson can be learned through the eyes of one remarkable hound.
All around him, there are things to chase, like foxes, quail and grouse. Herbert’s mind is set on one goal-he wanted to be a good tracker. His parents sent him to the Hound School so he will learn how to be a complete hound. He is with many other young hounds that are just as thirsty of knowledge as he is. They have to learn to sneak on things and be as quiet as a mouse.
The ferrets are the most elusive of the rodents. They are clever and sneaky and they can play around one’s mind. Herbert keeps this warning as he went off to find his first ferret. This quest will be a huge milestone in his life. Since it is very important, Herbert is nervous, although this did not discourage him from setting out with a determined heart. Will Herbert be successful in his first hunt?
Told in rhyming style and filled with colorful illustrations that will surely appeal to the young minds of children, “Herbert the Hound Dog” will also teach them a lesson they will never forget.

About the Author
Born and raised in Nelson, New Zealand, Ross Stevenson has enjoyed a career in accounting for many years. Life in a sleepy hollow can have its drawbacks, but having been lucky enough to travel occasionally, he realised on a regular basis that home is truly paradise. Poetry has been a part time thing for him, and recently he has been writing a lot more, particularly observational poetry, but also poems that would appeal to the younger generation.
He is married and has two adult children, both of whom have been most encouraging of their ‘old man’s’ new hobby. This level of respect though, seems to stop as they enter the golf course for the odd father and son battle. His other hobbies apart from poetry and golf include gardening, travel, family history and observing life and people which he finds endlessly fascinating.
