Whitewater Raft Trips in the Royal Gorge Resume After High Water Advisory Lifted
Cañon City, Colo. (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- River Runners, a Colorado whitewater rafting company, announced it is again offering guided raft trips through the Royal Gorge section of the Arkansas River as of June 12, 2014.
The Parkdale Gauge on the Arkansas River read 2,980 cubic feet per second (cfs) on the U.S. Geological Survey website Thursday morning and the high water advisory is lifted for anything below 3,200 cfs, according to Travis Hochard, general manager, River Runners.
“We are at the upper end of commercial raft trips in this section, which means the Royal Gorge is offering up some world-class whitewater right now,” Hochard said. “If you are looking for an exciting raft trip in Colorado – this is it.”
The snowpack remains well above average, but mild temperatures in the high country have slowed the melt, according to Hochard.
“We expect runoff to last through June with good flows through Labor Day,” Hochard explained. “This weekend’s forecast is in the 80s, so it will be a great time to be on the river.”
The Royal Gorge is an advanced-level raft trip, but there are also family-friendly trip options available, according to Jon Treleani, head boatman, River Runners.
“Even though the water level is above average for this time of year, there are raft trips available for beginners and first-time rafters,” Treleani explained. “The class II and III sections offer splashy rapids that are easy to navigate with a trained guide.”
