Ohio and Pennsylvania construction codes stipulate that a blower door test must be performed. Sam Boak’s insulation department at Boak & Sons is already certified and ready to take on the new state requirements this season.

“Our insulators are ahead of the curve with this certification, which makes Boak & Sons an excellent choice for new construction projects,” says Sam Boak, President of Boak & Sons.

The standards and regulations in construction are always improving and Sam Boak wants Boak & Sons to stay on top of the changes. The insulation department is accustomed to change, as requirements for the R-Value in new construction homes continues to increase. Recently, there has been a new regulation introduced that affects residential insultation. All insulation projects for new construction require blower door testing. The Boak & Sons team is already certified to conduct this test to meet new state requirements.

Blower door tests are done to measure the air tightness of a building and the way air filters out of a home. The testing equipment includes a fan, which pressurizes and depressurizes by producing different airflows into the building. This is a process that helps insulators ensure the home meets the appropriate building performance standards.

Boak & Sons insulators have been certified in blower door testing for several years, but it has only recently become a requirement for new construction. “Our insulators are ahead of the curve with this certification, which makes Boak & Sons an excellent choice for new construction projects,” says Sam Boak, President of Boak & Sons. “We are expecting a busy second half of the summer season since the rain seems to have subsided and new construction work can start again.”

With a blower door certification, our crews are trained how to install, measure and identify any leakage areas, and correct these issues to meet state code requirements. “By performing this test, we will have a full understanding of what insulation is needed,” says Todd Fabian, an insulation estimator at Boak & Sons.
