Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center Announces Partnership with InDemand Interpreting to Support Better Communication for their Patients and Providers
SEATTLE (PRWEB) August 09, 2018 -- In honor of National Health Center Week, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center announced a new partnership with InDemand Interpreting, a technology-enabled medical interpreting company, to ensure every patient has immediate access to medically qualified and culturally competent interpreters. Known for providing linguistically and culturally-appropriate care to more than 23,000 patients each year in 38 different languages, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center embodies the vision of high quality, compassionate, affordable healthcare for all. The implementation of InDemand video remote interpreting (VRI) will enable the health center to better support patient and provider communication.
With a vision to ensure every patient receives the highest quality healthcare, regardless of language, cultural background or disability, InDemand partners with healthcare organizations nationwide to bridge the communication gap between limited English proficient (LEP), Deaf and hard of hearing patients (HOH) and their clinicians. Using VRI, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center clinicians will be able to immediately connect to medically qualified interpreters in more than 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL) and Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDIs).
Founded by the first board-certified, African-American OB/GYN, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center has a rich history in Kansas City. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the health center is a safety-net provider with five locations around the metro area, as well as multiple in-school clinics, and has been a fixture in downtown since its launch during the Civil Rights Movement.
“For more than 50 years, our mission has been to provide high quality, compassionate and affordable health care to all, and we deliver universal compassion with cultural competence to everyone who walks through our doors.” Said Bob Theis, Acting CEO, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center. “We selected InDemand as our partner in language services because we share the same vision and believe that InDemand’s VRI will enhance the effectiveness of communication between our providers and patients that require language services.”
“We are honored to partner with Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, one of the first health centers in the nation, and we are committed to supporting their mission to provide high quality, compassionate and affordable health care for all,” said Cecil Kost, InDemand Interpreting Chairman and CEO.
InDemand Interpreting VRI devices will be available throughout the health center beginning Sept. 1, connecting patients and providers to medically qualified interpreters at the touch of a button. To learn more about the new VRI program, the health center is hosting a special event on Wednesday, Aug. 15 to unveil the language services program and to educate the community about the new options available to them.
Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center will be hosting several events to commemorate National Health Week, including:
