Santa Cruz has carved out a niche for itself as a destination just as surely as the waves have carved its shoreline. Whether people come for a day, a week, or a lifetime, there is plenty to love about this particular stretch of coast. Now, with the just published 228 Interesting, Odd, Beautiful & Historic Things to See in Santa Cruz County, visitors and locals alike can enjoy discovering the hidden corners and small wonders that collectively make Santa Cruz County unique.

Written by long-time residents Steven Bignell and Susan Bruijnes, 228 Interesting, Odd, Beautiful & Historic Things to See in Santa Cruz County includes over 250 photos and describes a wide variety of sights to visit throughout the county including amusements, architecture, art, gardens, oddities, little known museums, and more.

“Shrines, murals, hedges, honeybees, mansions, sheds—I love how this book roams the entire county with a keen eye for the significant and unexpected wonders of our region,” says Nikki Silva of The Kitchen Sisters on NPR, and curator/exhibit consultant.

Steven Bignell, co-author and publisher at Journeyworks Publishing says, “We want to draw attention to places and things that make the whole of Santa Cruz County special. Some things in our book are well known, but many others are lesser known “gems” that deserve a closer look and we hope our book will inspire readers to explore the county and seek out new places to visit.”

228 Interesting, Odd, Beautiful & Historic Things to See in Santa Cruz County ($14.95, 208 pages) also lists all 25 museums in the county and 11 art galleries. It is available at Bookshop Santa Cruz, Capitola Book Café, Crossroads Books, all local State Park gift shops and many other retail locations. In addition, it can be purchased online from the Journeyworks Publishing website.
