San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) October 06, 2014 -- It can happen to anyone. As a matter of fact, melanoma diagnosis has grown significantly since the 1970s. Melanoma has shown to grow on many areas of the body, not limited to the skin. There have been diagnosis in the eyes, genitalia, and nail beds. Animals have also been diagnosed with melanoma in Africa; fish in Australia.
Alarming as that may be, melanoma is almost 100% preventable. However, the rates of diagnosis continue to grow. It is estimated that over 9,000 people will die from melanoma in 2014. In 2013, over 3,000 people lost their lives in Texas alone. Melanoma is one of the highest diagnosed cancer with young adults. There is a lot of pressure among young adults that pale skin is "pasty" which implicitly means "ugly." However, this stigma can kill.
Miles Against Melanoma has teamed up with City Solve Urban Races to have its inaugural fundraiser on Saturday October 25, 2014: The Miles Against Melanoma City Solve Scavenger Hunt. The starting line will be at The Friendly Spot, 943 S Alamo, San Antonio TX 78205. The goal is simple: to bring awareness to melanoma in a fun environment.
Teams of 2 and 4 will be given a set of clues and must race downtown San Antonio via foot or VIA City Bus only. First teams to solve the most clues with the fastest time will win prizes. Some of the clues are physical challenges, others will require the use of a smart phone to find the answer.
In addition to the hunt, door prizes will be available. A costume contest and interactive social media contests during the race will also add fun to the mix. The scavenger hunt is open to all ages.
