Teachers Insurance Specialists in Longwood Florida recently announced the results of a teacher survey conducted by Horace Mann Insurance. The survey found that each year there is an increase in teachers who spend their own income to furnish their students with new school supplies.

The survey conducted by Horace Mann Insurance indicated that 56 percent of teachers said they spent at least $200 of their own money on school supplies, and 13 percent stated they spent more than $600. More than half of the teachers surveyed said their school districts cut annual budgets for school supplies. Most commonly cut from the school supply budget were general school supply items, such as paper and pens, followed by math and science supplies, as well as reading and language supplies.

"Budget cuts are forcing teachers to make cuts in their lesson plans due to lack of supplies. The survey also showed nearly 38 percent of teacher’s reportedly abandoned more than two projects in the school year due to lack of supplies to facilitate the projects. Budget cuts are a real challenge within the education system. For teachers to effectively teach their lessons and facilitate projects they need the funding for supplies," explains Simone Baldwin, owner/agent of Teachers Insurance Specialists.

Baldwin adds, "Without parents donating items to the classroom many teachers are forced to use their own money for funding. Teachers are not reimbursed for additional expenses so often times if they don’t purchase supplies for their classroom out of pocket they are forced to go without. As lawmakers continue to look for ways to make cuts I only see the problem getting worse."

Teachers Insurance Specialists’ auto insurance coverage goes beyond the typical car or truck. They also offer boat insurance, RV insurance, motorcycle insurance and even golf cart insurance!

"With Florida being a year round destination for golf carts and motorcycles we offer competitive insurance rates for Florida drivers. Many people don’t think they need insurance on a golf cart because it’s not on the open road. They are grossly mistaken. People have died from golf cart accidents, they can be very dangerous. We have seen golf carts flip over, run over people and be submerged in water. It’s unfortunate but accidents happen so we always advise customers if they own a golf cart they better carry golf cart insurance," explains Baldwin.

Baldwin adds, "At Teachers Insurance Specialists we do not sell just insurance policies; we help our clients to allocate their insurance budgets to get the best coverage with the greatest overall protection value. We show our Florida insurance clients how and where they can save and obtain the optimal insurance discounts available."
