ScienceForAllFoundation.org Announces the Launch of its Non-Profit Organization
Mesa, AZ (PRWEB) February 12, 2014 -- ScienceForAllFoundation.org has just announced the launch of its non-profit organization and website. The Science for All Foundation is dedicated to promoting an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in youth.
The Science For All Foundation (SFAF), which has also just started a new Facebook page that people are can visit to get more information, Facebook.com/ScienceForAllFoundation, is specifically focused on encouraging young women to pursue both education and careers in science.
As a spokesperson from the Science for All Foundation noted, issues relating to the lack of women in science-related careers are well known. For example, a 2011 article from the US Department of Commerce titled “Women in STEM Gender Gap to Innovation” reports that although women fill close to half of all jobs in the U.S. economy, they hold less than 25 percent of STEM jobs. This has been the case throughout the past decade, even as college educated women have increased their share of the overall workforce.
In addition, the article noted, women with STEM jobs earned 33 percent more than comparable women in non-STEM jobs, considerably higher than the STEM premium for men. As a result, the gender wage gap is smaller in STEM jobs than in non-STEM jobs. However, women hold a disproportionately low share of STEM undergraduate degrees, particularly in engineering.
“We work closely with educators, business leaders, community leaders, and scientists to develop programs that will spark an interest, maintain that interest through education, and ultimately lead to careers in fields relating to STEM,” the spokesperson for SFAF noted, adding that these developing programs include: providing resources to educators, students, and families; hosting and participating in science-focused events, and sponsoring events.
