Scytl, the world leader in secure online voting and election modernization today announced the release of a full JavaScript voting client implementing advance cryptographic algorithms. The use of a full JavaScript voting client greatly enhances voting usability and accessibility by allowing secure voting from tablets, smartphones and smart TV devices. As citizens and governments adoption of networked personal devices evolve, so do their voting requirements. But election objectives remain the same: catering for secure, transparent and auditable elections.

An industry first: ensuring all voting data for new generation networked devices is encrypted on the device instead of the server, without the need to install a client app on the voter device. Including advance cryptographic mechanisms in a JavaScript voting client proves a significant step forward in secure online voting for mobile devices. Of special note:

  •     The implementation of cryptographic mechanisms in the same JavaScript voting client provides end-to-end vote secrecy and integrity by encrypting and digitally signing the vote in the same voter device instead of the voting server.
  •     The use of advance cryptographic mechanisms, instead of standard ones, provides the voter with irrefutable proof of the correct registration of voter intent by the voting device.
  •     The voter can be sure that the contents of the electronic votes stored in the ballot box are correct without compromising voter privacy as it is not necessary to decrypt the vote for verification purposes.

A clear example of the evolution of voting requirements based on mobile adoption is the security protocol implemented to cater for Norway´s online voting solution.
